Apple’s Family Sharing feature, allowing up to six family members to share app subscriptions, has led to a class action lawsuit settlement totaling $25 million. The lawsuit, filed in 2019, accused Apple of misleading customers by not being transparent about the fact that individual developers could prohibit sharing a single subscription. The lawsuit also claimed that Apple placed ads on the landing pages of some subscription-based apps that didn’t support Family Sharing. Apple has denied any wrongdoing and settled the case to avoid potential costs associated with a jury trial. If customers used Family Sharing and bought a subscription to an app through the App Store between 2015 and 2019, they may be eligible for a settlement of up to $50.
