Apple has announced it will use RCS, a replacement for SMS and MMS that offers better interoperability compared to SMS and MMS. Apple has resisted adopting it because of its preference for iMessage and concerns about security. Additionally, Google has used RCS in its rivalry with Apple. Apple’s change was likely motivated by the European Union’s scrutiny of the tech industry. iMessage remains Apple’s preferred messaging platform due to its end-to-end encryption. Other notable stories include Hyundai’s collaboration with Amazon and the integration of Alexa into its vehicles, YouTube’s new feature using AI to create backing tracks from artists’ voices, Unity making its game development tools available for $30 a month, a cybersecurity breach reporting mandate, and Kia’s concept vehicles.
