Instagram has recently launched a new tool called backdrop, which utilizes generative AI to create fun and imaginative backgrounds for your Stories. Ahmad Al-Dahle, Meta’s generative AI lead, unveiled the feature on Threads along with a video tutorial. The backdrop tool appears alongside other icons at the top of your screen once you upload or capture content for your Story. By clicking on the backdrop icon, you can prompt the AI to generate backgrounds based on your description, such as “surrounded by puppies” or “chased by dinosaurs.” However, it’s important to note that the AI·Backdrop tag will be attached to your Story, along with a sticker prompting others to try it and your description in quotation marks. As of now, the backdrop tool is only accessible to users in the United States.
