The European Union has designated Pornhub, Stripchat, and XVideos as “very large online platforms” subject to the Digital Services Act’s (DSA) stricter rules. The three porn sites have until February 17 to comply with general requirements, including making it easy for users to flag illegal content and ensuring privacy, security, and safety of minors. They also have four months to implement measures to prevent the spread of illegal content and to offer researchers publicly available data, among other obligations. The Commission will monitor their compliance closely and failure to comply may result in severe penalties, including fines of up to six percent of annual global revenue. The Commission has opened formal infringement proceedings into X for potential violations of the DSA, and is also examining the handling of conflicts on other platforms like Meta and TikTok.
