NBA 2K22–Next-Gen Upgrade Not for All Versions

NBA 2K22 is finally coming to gaming consoles all over the world, in September 2021.

Massive basketball fans out there have already been preparing for the new release with the game’s Pre-Orders now live across the globe.

Still, there is one major setback which has had certain sections of the fanbase concerned, which revolves the next-gen upgrade if you are on an older generation console (PlayStation 4, Xbox One).

Although there are four (4) different editions offered of the new game, only two (2) of the editions will allow free next-gen upgrades if you own two different consoles of the same family (PlayStation or Xbox).

The two (2) editions mentioned are:

  • NBA 2K22 Cross Gen Digital Bundle Edition($79.99)
  • NBA 2K22 NBA 75thAnniversary Edition($99.99)

This may not seem like a big issue at first glance, but there are two (2) major problemswhich come out of this move:

  • The supply of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S has been very limited, with the current third-party scalping issue still running rampant around the world.
  • The increase in overall price for both editions makes it even harder for players to buy them, especially given that previous generation owners will need to buy another NBA 2K22 game if they have not yet managed to secure a next-gen console by the next few months.
  • This is surely a bold move by the publishers, but we will just have to wait and see how the sales numbers react once NBA 2K22 officially launches later this year.
