Meta has just made Threads search tags available to all users. Threads’ “topic tags” are similar to hashtags, but with some differences. Unlike hashtags, they can include spaces, making them look like regular phrases. The tags are highlighted in blue and link to other posts with the same tag. Users are now using this feature to play pranks by adding a “Show more” tag in the middle of a post, tricking others into clicking and being redirected to the tag’s page. This trick is effective because it replicates a familiar UI element. Users have fallen for it and are finding it amusing. Despite its simplicity, this prank is likely to persist due to new users joining Threads, especially now that it has launched in Europe. It remains to be seen if Meta will address this issue.
