The Sunbird messaging app for Android has shut down due to privacy concerns. This follows the app’s partnership with Nothing to create the Nothing Chats app, which was pulled due to similar concerns. Although the parent company claims the shutdown is temporary, it is clear that Sunbird was not a successful product and had vulnerabilities that allowed users to access private messages. The app missed deadlines and refused to address privacy concerns, leading to speculation that it was not a serious company. With Apple’s upcoming release of secure messaging, Sunbird’s relevance is further diminished. Despite being removed from the Play Store, Sunbird’s website still promotes its encryption features, and the company has not commented on the shutdown.
