Amazon will start showing limited advertisements with its service’s movies and shows, and customers can pay an additional $3 a month to avoid interruptions. The company first announced that it would serve ads with its content in the US, UK, Germany, and Canada, with other regions to follow. Amazon aims to have fewer ads than linear and streaming TV providers, with a target of four minutes of ad time per hour. The company said that introducing ads and charging extra for an ad-free experience will help invest in content. Subscribers will automatically start seeing ads at the end of January, and they can pay for an ad-free experience on a dedicated website. Notably, rented or purchased content will not have ads, and certain locations are currently excluded from the rollout.
