According to reports, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is winding down its gaming arm, Nuverse, potentially impacting hundreds of jobs. This comes after recent layoffs in its VR division, Pico, and ByteDance’s acquisition of gaming subsidiary Moonton is reportedly seeking a buyer. Despite the success of Nuverse’s notable titles, ByteDance CEO Liang Rubo reportedly criticized the gaming arm for its lack of focus. This restructuring could benefit competitors like Tencent, NetEase and MiHoYo, while highlighting the challenges of China’s gaming regulations.
