Roku at CES 2024: Pro Series TVs, Smart Picture and more
Roku is making a splash at CES this year with its new Pro Series TVs. These sets feature Mini LED backlighting for improved brightness and contrast, as well as enhanced audio. Last year, Roku surprised the industry by releasing its first self-made TVs, the Select and Plus models. These TVs were aimed at value-oriented consumers, with prices ranging from $149 to $999. However, the new Pro Series, which includes 55-inch, 65-inch and 75-inch models, tops out at $1,500.
It’s important to note that while Roku’s Pro Series TVs are considered “high-end,” they are still aimed at budget-conscious shoppers. For those willing to spend more, there are QLED sets from Samsung, Sony, and LG, as well as even pricier OLED TVs. However, with Mini LED backlighting, Roku is offering an upgrade over its previous mid-range TVs, which featured QLED displays and support for Dolby Vision and Atmos.
The Mini LED backlights in the Pro Series TVs provide higher brightness and allow for hundreds or even thousands of dimming zones, similar to the capabilities of OLED screens. This means that it’s the closest you’ll get to OLED performance on a standard LED screen.
In addition to the new Pro Series TVs, Roku also announced that it will be introducing AI and machine learning features for its Roku Smart Picture. This feature will automatically adjust the TV settings for specific types of content, ensuring that viewers are getting the best picture quality without needing to manually adjust settings.
Roku has stated that the new Pro Series TVs will be available in the US in Spring 2024. Additionally, the company will expand retail availability for its Select and Plus series sets, although specific details have not been provided yet. Stay tuned for more updates from CES 2024 in Las Vegas.
