Substack recently launched new video capabilities, putting it in direct competition with YouTube and Patreon. The tools include a direct upload option and customizable paywalls. Previously, users had to upload videos to YouTube and embed a link, but now the upload tool is easily accessible via the dashboard. Additionally, there is an AI tool that generates transcripts from videos, and viewers can create their own custom clips with branded visuals at the end. Substack is rolling out exclusive video shows to celebrate the launch, and has also recently added features like Notes and a chat feature to make it a more social space.
