In June, Instagram launched a new feature allowing users in the US to download publicly viewable Reels on their mobile devices. Now, Instagram head Adam Mosseri has announced that this feature is rolling out to all users worldwide. Users can now download public Reels to their devices by tapping on the Share button. Mosseri explained that downloaded Reels will have the Instagram watermark with the account’s username and will only come with music if they’re scored with original tracks. Instagram will strip the audio for Reels that use licensed music as a background. This new feature is similar to TikTok’s video downloading feature and may help attract more users to the app, as it gives creators an easy way to share clips across platforms. Users can prevent their Reels from being downloaded by going to Reels and Remix under Privacy in Settings and toggling off “Allow people to download your Reels.”
