A group of lawmakers from the House of Representatives committee is asking Apple to explain why its streaming arm suddenly canceled Jon Stewart’s talk show. The show briefly aired on Apple TV+ in 2021 but was abruptly canceled after its third season. Lawmakers are curious if the show’s criticism of China had any influence on its cancellation. The bipartisan effort to gain clarity from Apple is connected to the House of Representatives’ Select Committee. The show’s discussions about artificial intelligence and gun control may have also played a role in its cancellation, aside from the criticisms of China. This request from lawmakers comes as roughly 19 percent of Apple sales come from China. Apple has been asked to address this issue by December 15, 2023.
