Sony’s Missed Opportunity: Another Gaming Handheld Falls Short

When it comes to modern gaming handhelds, Sony is known for PSP and Vita consoles. Despite their popularity, these consoles were phased out before the era of Nintendo’s Switch and Valve’s Steam Deck. So, one would expect Sony’s new handheld console, the Portal, to be a major hit. But that does not seem to be the case.

The Portal costs $200 and is designed to stream from your own PlayStation 5, whether you are at home or on the go. However, it has no local titles to play and lacks additional features beyond using it to play games on your PS5, especially when there are other cheaper alternatives available. In addition, it seems that Sony’s hardware and software integration are far from seamless, which may disappoint loyal Sony fans.

In the news, it was revealed that Google pays Apple a significant amount to be the default search engine on Safari, despite both companies wanting to keep the figure confidential. Volvo has also introduced its EM90, a fully electric minivan with reclining chairs and air suspension, while ASUS accidentally misspelled the name of its product. Lastly, 2023 has been an interesting year for the gaming industry, with no clear winner for Game of the Year, and an online phenomenon that shouldn’t be happening.
